I recently made a decision to take one day a week and do something outdoors and physical with just the boys. I had to get over a lot of guilt for leaving Pepper, but my good friend Lindsey made it so much easier by agreeing to let Pepper come play with her little girl once a week:) It's a win/win for all! Plus, Pepper was still in casts and there was no way I was taking her anywhere near water!
Last Friday, I took the boys to La Jolla Cove to explore tide pools. We knew the tide wasn't going to be as low as would be preferable, but we had scheduled the trip ahead of time and decided to just go with it. Pools or no pools, we enjoyed every second. La Jolla is easily my favorite place I've ever been to.
We parked at the south end of the cove and walked south along the shoreline. We were alone on this part of the coast. The first critter we discovered was this little caterpillar! Hey little guy!
We got so much rain this winter that there is green fuzzy Grinch moss everywhere. When the waves wash over it, it dances.
We walked along the back doors of private villas and little Inns and discovered these crumbling steps. It felt like we were standing on ancient ruins like in The Planet of the Apes.
This is what we had for tidepools. We found a lot of vegetation and pieces of coral, crabs and tiny fish.
This little crab was bubbling:)
The boys ended up with a container full of crab exoskeletons, seaweed, and coral bits. They brought them home, set them on the counter and left them there until the stench filled the kitchen and I threw it all out. For science, right?
We had an incredible morning exploring the shoreline. We followed it up with a trip to the CAVE. But that's a whole 'nother post! Part two coming soon!
